BBAU Holds Press Conference on 11th Convocation; Detailed Information Shared on Preparations and Arrangements

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, will organize its 11th Convocation Ceremony-2026 on 29 August 2026. In this regard, a press conference was organized by the University on 26 August. The press conference was chaired by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. Also present on the dais were Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof. S. Victor Babu, Registrar Dr. Ashwini Kumar Singh, Controller of Examinations Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav, and Public Relations Officer Prof. Rachana Gangwar. During the press conference, detailed information was shared with media representatives regarding the overall structure of the convocation, preparations, arrangements, degrees and medals to be conferred, as well as the major programmes and facilities planned for the ceremony.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal informed that the Hon’ble Defence Minister of the Government of India, Shri Rajnath Singh, will grace the 11th Convocation of the University as the Chief Guest. He stated that the presence of the Hon’ble Defence Minister is a matter of great pride for the entire University community. Degrees will be conferred upon eligible and registered students from the academic years 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 across various programmes. He said that the convocation is not only an occasion to honour the academic achievements and hard work of students, but also an important opportunity to inspire them to utilize their knowledge and skills for nation-building. Prof. Mittal informed that, considering the large participation of students and candidates, the degree distribution programme will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, while the second phase will commence from 2:00 PM in the respective departments of the students. During the first phase, Ph.D. degree recipients, gold medalists and students belonging to other prominent categories will be honoured.

The Vice Chancellor said that a convocation is not merely an occasion for awarding degrees, but symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of students. He extended his best wishes to all degree recipients for a bright future and emphasized that it is the responsibility of every student to use the knowledge, values and discipline acquired at the University for the development of society and the nation. He further stated that the University administration is making extensive preparations to ensure that the ceremony is conducted in a systematic, smooth and grand manner, with special attention to the convenience of students, parents and guests.

Controller of Examinations Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav informed that during the first phase of the convocation at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, a total of 22 meritorious students will receive degrees or awards on the main stage. These include 17 meritorious students/university toppers from undergraduate and postgraduate levels, 1 D.Sc. recipient, and 4 students who will be honoured with the R.D. Sonkar Award. He clarified that during the main ceremony, only those students who have been specifically selected and identified for this purpose will receive their degrees or awards on the main stage. He further informed that a total of 8,551 students from the academic years 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, along with backlog candidates, will be awarded degrees in the 11th Convocation of BBAU. This includes 4,832 male and 3,719 female students.

Year-wise, degrees will be awarded to 2,139 students from 2023, 2,115 students from 2024, 2,237 students from 2025 and 2,041 students from 2026. In addition, 19 students will receive degrees under the backlog category. Thus, the total number of degree recipients across the four academic years and backlog category stands at 8,551. Giving programme-wise details, Prof. Yadav stated that the degree recipients include 2,771 undergraduate (UG) students, 228 undergraduate students under the Multiple Entry and Exit system, 4,662 postgraduate (PG) students, 412 Ph.D. scholars, 142 students from integrated programmes, 23 students from certificate courses, 198 students from diploma programmes, 102 students from PG diploma programmes and 13 M.Phil. students. The highest number of degree recipients are from postgraduate programmes, with 4,662 students, followed by 2,771 students from undergraduate programmes.

The University administration informed that students participating in the first phase of the convocation will be provided valid convocation passes by the Proctor’s Office for entry into the venue. Students have been instructed to enter the venue only with the prescribed convocation pass and to strictly follow all guidelines and arrangements issued by the University.

For the smooth and systematic conduct of the second phase of the degree distribution programme, necessary instructions have been issued to all Heads of Departments. They have been directed to ensure adequate and appropriate seating arrangements for degree recipients and other authorized participants, so that students can reach their respective departments on time and participate in the programme.

In addition, with the objective of ensuring the successful conduct of the convocation and familiarizing students with the programme procedures, a rehearsal will be held in two phases on 27 August 2026. The first rehearsal will be conducted from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the second rehearsal from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, BBAU. A full-dress rehearsal will also be held on 28 August 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Keeping in view the dignity and uniformity of the convocation ceremony, a special dress code has been prescribed for students. Male students are required to wear a cream/whitish-coloured kurta-pajama, while female students are required to wear a cream/whitish-coloured kurti-salwar/churidar or saree. The University administration has appealed to all students to strictly follow the prescribed dress code and attend the convocation in the designated attire appropriate to the dignity of the occasion.

The University will also provide angavastram to students participating in the 11th Convocation. Distribution of the angavastram will take place on 27 and 28 August 2026. For the convenience of students, two designated time slots have been fixed on both days. Students may collect their angavastram between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM or 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. To receive the angavastram, students must first fill out the prescribed application form available on the University’s official website. After completing the application process, students will be able to collect the angavastram as per the procedure prescribed by the University.

The administration has requested students to complete the application process on time and visit the University only during the designated distribution स्लॉट्स। The University administration has appealed to all students to carefully follow all instructions related to the convocation. Students have been requested to adhere to the prescribed dress code, rehearsal and full-dress rehearsal schedules, angavastram distribution procedure and timings, thereby contributing to the smooth and successful conduct of the convocation ceremony.
