Why Shouldn’t Tulsi Be Plucked at Night? Know What the Scriptures Say, It’s Also Related to Lord Krishna

Lucknow: In Hinduism, Tulsi (holy basil) is considered sacred. It is compared to a goddess. Tulsi is definitely offered in Vishnu Puja (worship of Lord Vishnu). Without it, the worship is considered incomplete. It also has many medicinal properties. Therefore, you can consume Tulsi for health benefits. However, you should not pluck Tulsi just anytime. Certain specific rules have been made regarding this. Not following these rules can anger Goddess Tulsi.

Why Shouldn’t Tulsi Be Plucked at Night According to Scriptures:

Why is it forbidden to pluck Tulsi at night? Actually, the Tulsi plant is considered to be a form of Radha Rani (a consort of Lord Krishna). She performs Raas Leela (divine dance) with Lord Krishna in the evening. Therefore, touching Tulsi after this time is considered forbidden. If you touch Tulsi during this time, you may have to face the wrath of both Tulsi Maa (mother) and Lord Krishna. For this reason, even touching this plant in their absence is considered forbidden.

What are the Scientific Reasons:

There is also a scientific reason hidden behind not plucking Tulsi in the evening. Actually, after sunset, various kinds of insects reside on the Tulsi plant. In such a situation, if you pluck Tulsi at night, these insects can harm you. Apart from this, photosynthetic activity also does not occur at night. In such a situation, like other plants, the Tulsi plant also releases carbon dioxide at night. This gas can be harmful to you. Since there is no photosynthetic activity at night, the Tulsi plant, like other plants, releases more carbon dioxide compared to oxygen.

Do Not Pluck Tulsi Leaves on These Days Too:

If we believe the scriptures, Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on some special days as well. For example, do not pluck Tulsi on Sundays and Tuesdays. Tulsi leaves should also not be plucked on any Amavasya Tithi (new moon day).

If there is any eclipse, such as a solar or lunar eclipse, Tulsi leaves should not be plucked by mistake. However, before the eclipse, its leaves should be plucked and kept in some special places in the house and around food items so that the evil effects of the eclipse do not occur.
